Community-Led Art Workshops Empower People Living with Sickle Cell Disorder
A new series of creative workshops is launching in West London this Spring, offering people with sickle cell disorder (SCD) a welcoming space to create, connect, and be inspired.
The initiative is the result of a growing partnership between the West London Haemoglobinopathy Coordinating Centre (WLHCC) and The Sickle Cell Society (SCS), built on the shared belief in the power of creativity and community to improve wellbeing.
The workshops invite participants to explore a wide range of artistic mediums—including but not limited to painting, drawing, t-shirt and zine making, collage storytelling—while exploring the therapeutic power of self-expression. Art‑based social prescribing has been shown to improve wellbeing, mental health, and quality of life for people with chronic illness and disability, offering a holistic complement to medical care. This is even more important for people living with SCD as they face more social isolation which these workshops hope to challenge.
This workshop series is a celebration of shared stories, self-expression, and community strength. It’s an opportunity for participants to meet others who understand their journey and to see their creativity recognised and celebrated.
There will be a final showcase on the 1st of August, highlighting the art, voices, and talent of the sickle cell community.
Tickets are limited so please book early to avoid disappointment:
