Specialised Sickle Cell Nutrition Programme Starting May 2026

Join our new 6-month Specialised Nutrition Programme, led by Dr Claudine Matthews, designed to improve nutrition knowledge, support self-management, and help address gaps in sickle cell care. Through practical, easy-to-follow sessions, the programme will support patients, families, carers and healthcare professionals with tailored nutrition education and advice.

Programme aims

The programme will:

  • Improve nutrition education and address gaps in standard sickle cell care
  • Support screening and understanding of malnutrition risk
  • Empower patients, carers and professionals with practical nutrition knowledge
  • Support better self-management and improved wellbeing
  • Explore the barriers and challenges affecting nutrition in sickle cell care

 

Who is it for?

The programme includes dedicated sessions for:

  • People living with Sickle Cell Disorder (adults, children and young people)
  • Parents and carers
  • Healthcare professionals

 

Choose your group

For Patients and Families

Choose one of two groups based on your availability:
Group A (Wednesdays) – blended programme with in-person opening and closing sessions at St George’s, plus online sessions (May–September)
Group B (Thursdays) – fully online programme (May–October)

For Healthcare Professionals

Choose one group:

Group A (June–August) – three online lunchtime sessions
Group B (September–October) – three online lunchtime sessions

For Parents and Carers

Two dedicated online evening sessions focused on paediatric and transition-related nutrition support:

  • 4 June
  • 3 September
