It's here! Group Bookings for Black-heritage blood donors
It’s here! We’re excited to launch NHS Blood and Transplant’s dedicated Group Booking service for Black heritage blood donors.
This new service makes giving blood more welcoming, connected, and rooted in solidarity. You and your community can now book appointments together on dedicated days, making the experience easier and more supportive - especially for first-time donors. Whether you’re a few friends or colleagues booking together, or a larger group such as an African Caribbean Society, Church, face/faith staff network or community organisation arranging to reserve part of a session, there’s a way for everyone to take part.
Why this matters
Black donors are urgently needed to provide the best care and support for people living with sickle cell, who often require regular blood transfusions. The best match often comes from someone of the same ethnicity. Currently, only 50% of transfusions for people with sickle cell are the best possible match. By donating together, we can make a real difference.
Upcoming sessions
- Birmingham Donor Centre – Saturday 27th September
- Brixton Donor Centre, London – Saturday 20th September
- Stratford Donor Centre, London – Thursday 25th September
- Shepherd’s Bush Donor Centre, London – Saturday 6th September
- Manchester Plymouth Grove Donor Centre – Saturday 27th September
How to take part - Book now via the Group Booking page for your chosen location, or contact us to discuss a larger group reservation.
- New donors must sign up at blood.co.uk to get their Donor ID before booking.
- Please advise donors to check eligibility before booking: eligibility check and travel check. This helps avoid anyone being unable to donate on the day.
