The West London HCC Has Something in the Works

The West London HCC have been working alongside a new theatre production "Illuminations" to host the Illuminations play on our west London sites.

We would love to bring performances to all of the groups: patients & families, clinicians, and the university.

Illuminations - A Participatory Theatre Project Exploring Sickle Cell Care

Here is a little bit of information about the production:

Stephen is a haematology registrar in East London and a HARP PhD Fellow at Barts, where his research focuses on improving hospital care for patients experiencing sickle cell crises.

He is currently co-producing a new immersive theatre production, Illuminations, alongside Estella Daniels and Kofi Amankwah, two experienced actors who are living with sickle cell. The production follows 18 months of in-depth research into sickle cell care and aims to “illuminate” what high-quality, compassionate care looks like for those affected by the condition. An award-winning playwright, professional actors, sound directors and established theatre companies have joined the project, with a three-week run currently planned.

Designed to be performed beyond traditional theatre settings, Illuminations is set to be staged at the British Society for Haematology Annual Meeting, as well as at hospitals and universities across East and South London.

Funding has been secured for three weeks of performances beginning 21 April, and there are plans to bring the production to West London. Each performance runs for 30 minutes and is followed by an interactive discussion session of up to 30 minutes.

The project offers a powerful and innovative platform to share the lived experiences of people with sickle cell disease, fostering deeper understanding among clinicians, patients, researchers and wider audiences.
